On the one hand, AI has given us countless cool features. On the other hand, many people experienced fraud due to deepfakes.

The YouTube team has found a solution to this problem. From now on, every video shot by a REAL person will be labeled “Captured with a camera” in the description of the video. It will look like this:

In this way, YouTube will tag all videos created through a device using C2PA standards, reflecting that the content is authentic and hasn’t been altered from its original form.

Why do they need this feature? It will help users instantly determine whether the video was made by AI or by a 100% real person. Thus, the YouTube team assumes that the number of deepfake scams will decrease significantly.

As Google states:

“For “captured with a camera” to appear in the expanded description, creators must use tools with built-in C2PA support (version 2.1 or higher) to capture their videos. This allows the tools to add special information, metadata, to the video file, confirming its authenticity. YouTube will relay the information that the content was “Captured with a camera,” and apply the disclosure when it detects this metadata. The content must also not have edits to sound or visuals. This disclosure indicates that the content was captured using a camera or other recording device, with no edits to sounds or visuals.”

Overall, we are sure that this feature will help many users to avoid falling for scams and filter all the information they receive. We will keep following the news of the social media world.
