As Matt Navarra, founder of Geekout Newsletter, shared in his Threads, now Instagram users can create a free-form ‘Collage’ and add any photos from their feed. This is roughly what it will look like:
You’ll probably say that a similar feature already exists in Stories. However, all these templates were available with Layout. In this case, the number of photos and their arrangement was strictly limited. But not anymore!
Now it is up to each user to choose the content themselves, combine it to their liking into one Story. Previously, Instagram has already tested a similar feature in group chats and a lot of people liked it.
Naturally, collages are in no way a new trend. Thanks to Pinterest, people started making collages and posting them on social media back in 2022. However, each platform has its own approach to combining photos.
Pinterest views collages as more of an art form. There you can remove the background and create entire moodboards from a series of pictures. On Instagram, this feature is for users who simply like to share the highlights of their lives through collages.
Will this feature be popular among users? We don’t know yet, but we will keep following the development of new trends in social media. In the meantime, read our other news and useful articles in the Blog section.
