Instagram has announced that it’s testing a feature to reset the recommendation system. This update is for those who are tired of the same old suggestions and want to start fresh by letting the algorithm re-learn preferences and shape it to show different content.
According to TechCrunch, the new feature is aimed at users who feel that recommendations are no longer relevant to their interests. For example, perhaps a person may have liked cooking recipe videos in the past, but then their interests changed, yet the algorithm keeps recommending that content in Reels and the Explore page.
Once reset, personalization will start all over based on interactions with posts and accounts. The reset will also offer an option to view a list of accounts the user is subscribed to in order to unsubscribe from influencers whose content is no longer relevant to the person.
Notably, this update is similar to a feature that TikTok launched last year that allows users to reset their “For You” recommendation feed.
