YouTube Replaces Viewcounts with Likes and Comments? When and Why?

YouTube has previously shocked users with seemingly small changes: “canceling” dislikes and then hiding the exact number of subscribers. One might wonder: what’s next? Suddenly YouTube announced hiding the number of views under the video. How will it affect the platform?

As we said above, previously such YouTube changes did not perplex users. Moreover, YouTube argued each innovation as a step towards a friendly community within the hosting. On the one hand, we agree with this, as the number of subscribers and dislikes can put pressure on aspiring creators. On the other hand, how do you analyze the quality of content?

Now YouTube has come up with a new idea: removing the number of views and replacing it with the number of likes and comments under the video.

There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with this update. However, it does cause some video selection problems. Previously, the number of views helped people understand if the content was worth their attention. Now videos with 1K views and 100K views will be on equal footing.

Viewcount Removal: Public Opinion

Not so long ago, subscribers of the “VidIQ” channel community participated in a vote on this update and reached a consensus: viewers are not satisfied with hiding views.

Well, we can understand them. We agree that from a psychological point of view, a large number of views has a positive effect on viewers, as it shows us that the video is “socially approved” and worth watching. At the same time, a large number of comments is not always an indicator of a good video, as often comments can be spam or bullying from the creator’s haters. By the way, don’t forget that not all viewers leave likes:)

And while we follow the updates and publish them in the Blog section, please share your opinion about this news in the comments.
